A Blog without pictures?

well, its been too cold to do much outside , so I've been working on my Elvis book. Most folks seem to think that elvis appeared out of nowhere on the Ed Sullivan show in 1956. Actually, he had been performing for about 2 years at that point. He had been playing around Memphis, when July 30, 1954, he and his band(Scotty Moore on Electric Guitar and Bill Black on double bass) opened for Slim Whitman at the now Levitt shell in Overton Park: Slim remarked that he had been upstaged, and Sam Phillips used the publicity to get the boy on the Grand Ole Opry: . The Opry was and is a very conservative place, so it turned into a one night stand. However. all was not lost. Scouts for the Opry's more adventuresome rival, the Louisian Hayride, were in attendance, and Elvis and Company soon were appearing in Shreveport every Saturday night. And it turned better for him. The Hayride was syndicated, and had a "Touring company" that would hit the bigger cities like Dallas and Houston, which in turn help Elvis to go from a Memphis artist to a national one, The Hay
